CIMBA offers semester and summer programs in Italy for undergraduate students. Courses are available in business, economics, journalism, communication studies, beginning Italian and engineering. Students and faculty are drawn primarily from Consortium of Universities for International Studies (CUIS) member schools; the membership includes more than 30 U.S. public universities.
In addition to coursework, students on the CIMBA program gain meaningful, international experience through interaction with the local culture, visits to area business and travel opportunities that built in to the program. Some of the additional activities that students will have the opportunity to participate in are: formal dinners, intermural sports, pizza and pasta making, excursions to nearby towns and much more.
The University of Iowa is the credit-granting institution for CIMBA, so students receive UI credit for courses completed as part of this program.
Semester participants can take 12-18 credits and Summer Session students receive 6 credits. Courses are taught in English and emphasize current international events. Program professors, selected from the Consortium’s member universities, are recognized for their experience and excellence in teaching, research and executive education. The CIMBA undergraduate campus is located in a quaint Italian town, Paderno del Grappa.
Paderno is located at the foot of the Dolomite Mountains in the northern Veneto region of Italy. The Veneto is known around the world for it’s entrepreneurial spirit, making it the perfect place to study business and communications. With only 5 million inhabitants, the region boasts more than 450,000 companies, most of which are small and medium-sized; these companies account for nearly 20 percent of Italian exports. The campus offers students the cultural experience of living in a small Italian community while providing access to the celebrated art and historical treasures of the Veneto region. Paderno is also just 50 miles North-West of Venice, making for an easy day-trip to one of the most famous cities in all of Italy.
The CIMBA program is located on the campus of the Istituto Filipin, a private Italian boarding school. The program offers a full-service campus complete with dorms, cafeteria, workout facilities, library, computer lab, on-campus nurse, laundry and much more! The dorms are only a 2-minute walk from all of your classes.
Participants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at home institution. They also must have sophomore status and/or have completed the required prerequisites. In addition, participants must have a valid passport and non-US citizens must have an Italian visa.
