The Tippie College of Business and International Programs collaborate on an eight-week summer internship program in London, England. This unique opportunity is open to University of Iowa undergraduate students in any major who want to gain international and professional work experience.

IMPORTANT Note to International Students:
Unfortunately, the TCOB London Internship program is not an option for many of our international students. A Tier 5 Visa is required by the UK for participation in this program. All F1 visa students* need to go through an additional screening process with Dream Careers, the U.K. government, as well as your home country. Visa processing times vary by home country and generally involves you returning to your home country to interview at the U.K. embassy as part of your visa process. Therefore, the overall process (visa, placement, etc.) is significantly longer for students from countries not noted below* and has historically resulted in a significant delay in program arrival or eligibility. Because of these added challenges, we do not accept international students from countries other than those noted below for this particular program.
* All citizens of the United States, European Union, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are eligible for the required U.K. visas; additional visa processing is required for students holding passports from other countries.

Academic Program

The Tippie College has partnered with Dream Careers to bring Iowa undergraduate students a customized academic internship opportunity in London. Students live in London for eight weeks, earn credit toward their UI degree, and are placed in internships throughout the city. Students can earn 4 s.h. of University of Iowa academic credit (1 s.h. spring semester, 3 s.h. summer) for the Summer London Internship Program. The application of credit is as follows:

General Elective Credit

Areas of study and preparation include:
• Global Current Events
• Reflective Learning
• Cultural Awareness
• Professional Development
• Host City/Country Knowledge and Planning

Business Elective Credit

6B:187 Global Business Perspectives (3 s.h.): This 3 s.h. A-F graded summer course seeks to link the practical experience of working abroad, and the professional development skills therein, with a scholarly capacity to reflect on the experience in a rigorous manner. Assignments are designed to meet the following objectives:
• understanding the value of international work assignments
• understanding your own cultural and professional beliefs and how those beliefs as well as the beliefs of others influence behavior and practices at the individual, organization, and societal level
• demonstrate an awareness and understanding of working in diverse work teams
• skills and perspectives for living and working in a culturally diverse world

Business Students: This course can satisfy the Business Gen Ed requirement for International and Global Issues. * 3 s.h. will be applied toward the Gen Ed; however, note it will be considered BUSINESS hourse toward your BBA degree.
IBC Students: Students earning an International Business Certificate (IBC) can apply this course toward the International Business requirements under the IBC.

*Note: TCOB students interested in the Dream Careers London or Hong Kong programs are required to apply via this University of Iowa-sponsored program.

Costs

The approximate total program fee for summer 2014 is $9,513. This fee is made up of the course fee of $8,969 and the study abroad administrative fee. Because the study abroad administrative fee is based on UI tuition and the Board of Regents to date have not set UI tuition for summer 2014, that part of the total program fee is subject to change. A summary of what is and is not included in the program fee can be found here. Students traveling abroad under the auspices of the University of Iowa are required to purchase the Regents International Health Insurance plan and will be automatically signed up for the coverage. More insurance cost and coverage information can be found here. The cost of insurance will show up as a separate charge on the students' ubill.
